How to Set Up a Setek WiFi Extender with a TP-Link N300 Router?

Make sure the router’s actually on. Sometimes people are setting this stuff up and the router’s been unplugged for days. so yeah. router on, WiFi working. The Setek thing. Plug it in somewhere near your router. not across the house yet. you want it close enough so it can talk to the router while setting up the Setek WiFi extender setup. later you can move it.

Setek WiFi Extender Setup with a TP-Link N300 Router

Alright, now grab your phone or laptop. go to your WiFi settings and look for something that says like Setek_EXT or Setek_2GEXT or whatever. connect to that. it won’t have internet, don’t freak out.

  • once you’re connected, open your browser and type this in the address bar: 192.168.10.1.
  • you’ll get this kind of basic Setek WiFi extender setup page. sometimes it asks for a password — usually it’s just admin / admin.
  • okay. now, it’s going to scan for WiFi networks. let it do that. you’ll see your TP-Link N300’s WiFi name pop up. pick that one. then it’ll ask for the WiFi password — that’s your main WiFi password, the one you use for the router.
  • after you put that in, it’ll ask you what you want to call the extended network. you can just leave it like “YourWiFi_EXT” or change it, doesn’t matter much.
  • then hit “apply” or “connect” or whatever the button says.
  • now — wait. like seriously wait a minute or two. the lights will blink and do their little dance. eventually one should go solid green or blue or whatever color it does when it’s happy.
  • after that, you can unplug it and move it to a spot halfway between your router and where your WiFi sucks. not too far away or it won’t catch the signal.
  • plug it in again and wait for the same lights to go solid. boom — should be good. check your WiFi list again and you’ll see the extended one. connect and test it.

if it doesn’t work, honestly just reset the Setek (there’s a little hole with “reset” on it, use a paperclip, hold for like 10 seconds) and start over. takes less time than trying to troubleshoot.

Troubleshooting Tips: Extender with a TP-Link N300 Router

  • You’ll see your TP-Link network show up, probably something like “TP-Link_N300” or whatever you named it. Click that one. Then it’ll ask for your TP-Link password. Type that in carefully.
  • And here’s the thing, when it asks if you want to change the SSID or keep the same one. I usually keep it the same if I want a seamless switch, or rename it slightly like “MyWifi_EXT”. If I wanna know I’m on the extender. personal preference, really.
  • Hit “Apply” or “Save.” The Setek will reboot (takes like 30–60 seconds). This is where everyone panics thinking it froze, it didn’t, just let it blink for a bit.
  • When it’s done, check your WiFi list again. If you see the new network, connect to it. If the internet actually loads, congrats, you’re done. If not, okay, try this:
  • Unplug the extender, wait like 10 seconds, plug it back in. Wait for it to boot. Sometimes it just needs that little reset.
  • If still not working, factory reset the Setek (there’s usually a tiny pinhole button, hold it with a paperclip for like 10 seconds). Start over. Yes, it’s annoying, but sometimes it just needs a clean slate.
  • One more weird thing: if you’re using Chrome and the setup page keeps saying “no internet,” try a different browser. I swear Setek’s firmware doesn’t play nice with Chrome sometimes. Edge or Firefox usually work better.
  • Lastly, if your TP-Link router has MAC address filtering turned on. Then turn that off while setting up the extender. it can block the Setek from connecting.

Once it’s all connected, move the extender to where you actually need it. But don’t go too far — if the signal light goes red or weak, that’s too far.

If it still doesn’t connect, honestly then just reset both devices. Start fresh, and maybe rename your main WiFi something simple, no weird symbols or spaces. The Setek setup can choke on special characters sometimes.
