The Setek extender is a cheap but impactful device that you can connect with any router with the help of the Ethernet cable or wirelessly. Setting Up the Setek WiFi Extender with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro

First thing, plug the Setek thing into the wall. mine blinked some weird red light for a bit, then went blue. I don’t actually know what that means yet, but whatever, it’s on.

Grab your laptop or phone, doesn’t matter. Look for a wifi network that says something like “Setek” or “WiFi-Extender” or whatever. Connect to that. Mine didn’t have a password (which always feels wrong but okay).

Then open a browser, and type 192.168.10.1 – yep, just that in the address bar. If that doesn’t load, try “myrepeater.net” – i know, sounds fake, but that’s what it said in the paper slip thing.

You’ll get this super old-school looking login page. Username and password are both “admin” classic.

Okay, now you’re in. there’s usually a “Repeater” or “Extender” option – pick that. It’ll start scanning for wifi networks. It’s gonna take a sec.

Now find your ASUS wifi name. For me it was “ASUS_5G” or something. click it. Then it’ll ask for your ASUS wifi password. Enter that.

You can usually rename the extended network if you want – i didn’t bother, so mine’s just ASUS_5G_EXT now. Hit next, or save, whatever button looks final.

It’ll do that thing where it “configures” for a couple minutes. Lights blink again. Then it’ll say “successful” or maybe it just restarts, i don’t know.

Now go back to your wifi list on your phone/laptop – you should see the new one (the one with “EXT”). Connect to that. Use the same password as your main ASUS wifi.

If that works, you’re done. If it doesn’t, honestly, unplug the Setek, plug it back in, wait 30 seconds, and try again. I had to do that twice.

Oh, and side note – if you’re using both 2.4GHz and 5GHz on the ASUS router, sometimes the extender only catches one. Mine only grabbed the 2.4GHz. It’s fine though, still decent range.

Last little thing: if your ASUS has AiMesh on (that fancy automatic thing), you might wanna turn that off during Setek WiFi extender setup, just so it doesn’t confuse the extender. You can turn it back on later.

Troubleshooting Tips: Setek Extender setup with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro

  • Find the Setek network. it’s like “SETUP_XXX” or something. Connect to that. Your computer might yell at you that there’s no internet. That’s fine. ignore it.
  • Open a browser and go to 192.168.10.1 – I swear I’ve typed that number like a hundred times.
  • It’ll ask you for a password. Default is usually admin / admin unless you changed it, which I definitely didn’t the first three times.
  • Okay here’s the fun part: you pick your WiFi network (the one from your ASUS RT-AX86U Pro), type in the password. Make sure you actually spell it right – I messed up one letter, and it connected but said “no internet” and I was like why. Took me an hour to realize it was just me being dumb.
  • Now, this part gets people. When it asks for SSID for the extended network, just leave it the same name + “_EXT” or whatever. I tried to get clever and rename it, and it just broke the connection.
  • Let it reboot. It takes like a weirdly long time. Lights blink, nothing happens, then suddenly it works. If it doesn’t, unplug, count to 10, plug back in. I know that sounds like fake advice, but it legit helps.
